About the Artist

070 Shake

070 Shake, whose real name is Danielle Balbuena, is an American singer, rapper, and songwriter known for her genre-blurring fusion of hip-hop, R&B, indie rock, and electronic textures.

070 Shake was born on June 8, 1997, in North Bergen, New Jersey, into a Dominican-American family. Her early years in New Jersey shaped a deeply introspective writing voice — one that draws from heartbreak, identity, and the search for self.

Beginnings with the 070 collective: Shake began making music as a teenager and rose through the New Jersey underground scene as part of the 070 collective, a tight group of artists who built their sound on raw, atmospheric, emotionally direct rap. The group’s distinctive aesthetic — heavy on mood, melody, and vulnerability — quickly set Shake apart.

Her breakthrough came in 2018 when Kanye West tapped her for a now-iconic feature on “Ghost Town,” a standout track from his album “Ye.” Her closing verse — written and performed in a single emotionally charged take — became one of the most-quoted moments of the album and instantly placed her on the global radar.

Shortly after, 070 Shake signed with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music imprint under Def Jam Recordings. She released her debut studio album, “Modus Vivendi,” in January 2020, an ambitious, cinematic project that confirmed her ability to build entire emotional worlds across a record. Her follow-up, “You Can’t Kill Me” (2022), pushed her sound further toward grand, anthemic production while keeping the lyrical intimacy that defined her from day one.

Her style sits at the intersection of rap, alt-R&B, and dream-pop — characterised by layered vocals, melancholic synths, and lyrics that read like journal entries. She has collaborated with artists across the spectrum, including Kanye West, Pusha T, Nas, Kid Cudi, and Raye, and has built a reputation as one of the most distinctive voices of her generation.

070 Shake is also a vocal LGBTQ+ artist, and her openness about identity and emotion has made her a leading figure for a generation of fans who see her work as an honest mirror.

In 2023, 070 Shake brought her live show to Paris, performing at Le Bataclan — La Pépite 47 covered the night on the ground, capturing the artistry, the crowd, and the quiet intensity that defines her performances.
