About the Artist

Chris Brown

Chris Brown, whose real name is Christopher Maurice Brown, is an American singer, songwriter, dancer, and entertainer, widely regarded as one of the most influential R&B artists of his generation.

Chris Brown was born on May 5, 1989, in Tappahannock, Virginia. He grew up surrounded by music — his mother sang in church and his early influences included Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke, and Sammy Davis Jr. By his early teens it was already clear that Brown wasn’t just a singer; he was a complete performer, fluent in dance, vocals, and stage craft.

Beginnings with Jive Records: Brown was discovered as a teenager and signed to Jive Records at the age of 15. In 2005 he released his self-titled debut album, “Chris Brown,” led by the breakthrough single “Run It!” — which made him the first male artist in over a decade to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. The album sold millions of copies worldwide and announced him as the new face of R&B.

His follow-up, “Exclusive” (2007), produced era-defining hits including “Kiss Kiss,” “With You,” and “Forever,” consolidating his status as a global pop and R&B superstar. Subsequent albums — “Graffiti” (2009), “F.A.M.E.” (2011), “Fortune” (2012), “X” (2014), and “Royalty” (2015) — continued to push his sound across pop, R&B, hip-hop, and dance, racking up Grammy wins, multi-platinum certifications, and a steady stream of #1 singles.

In the late 2010s and into the 2020s, Brown leaned further into ambitious, sprawling projects — “Heartbreak on a Full Moon” (2017), “Indigo” (2019), “Breezy” (2022), and “11:11” (2023) — each demonstrating both his prolific output and his ability to evolve while keeping a recognisable signature sound. His collaborations with artists such as Drake, Tyga, Young Thug, Lil Wayne, Rihanna, Ariana Grande, Usher, and Justin Bieber have produced some of the most-streamed records of the decade, including “Loyal,” “No Guidance,” and “Go Crazy.”

Beyond the music, Chris Brown has redefined what a modern stage show looks like. He is widely considered one of the strongest live performers of his era, drawing comparisons to Michael Jackson for the level of choreography, athleticism, and theatricality he brings to his arena tours. His “Under The Influence Tour” — a sprawling European arena run in 2023 — sold out venues across the continent and became one of the most talked-about tours of the year.

Brown is also a visual artist, painter, and businessman, having launched the lifestyle brand Black Pyramid and built a dedicated cultural footprint that extends far beyond music. With over 100 million records sold worldwide and one of the largest social media followings of any artist on the planet, he remains a defining figure of contemporary R&B and global pop culture.

In 2023, Chris Brown brought his “Under The Influence Tour” to Paris for a sold-out night at the Accor Arena — La Pépite 47 covered the show on the ground, capturing the choreography, the crowd, and the production scale that has made him one of the most singular live performers of his generation.
